i’ve decided to *try* and commit to reading at least 20 minutes per day in order to read more of the many great books i keep intending to read and never get around to. only thing with that is that i also tend to keep on reading long past the 20 minutes once i get into something good. which then means other duties are left undone. ahhh, my forever struggle to be disciplined!
anyway, i recently picked up noel piper’s ‘treasuring God in our traditions’. so so so good!!! there’s even recipes in there! if you haven’t read it, i’d strongly encourage you to pick it up- it’s all about how we can weave traditions into our family life, both every day and special days, that point our children to our ultimate treasure- God. i’m finding this book extra encouraging in that my own family wasn’t God-centered or really had any traditions while i was growing up (unless you count taking your shoes off at the door) but that can all be changed by what i choose to do in the family i’m in now. plus i can pick up a few traditions from the pipers themselves!
john piper’s foreward for this book was hilarious. in the opening, he writes: ‘so it stopped bothering us that i am the emtional, poetic, expressive one in this marriage, and she is the no-nonsense, suck-it-up, thick-skinned doer.’
heh heh heh.
*update on mikey- he’s continuing to get better, praise God. he still has to take the antibiotic 2 times a day for another week- i’m hiding it in applesauce since he hates the oral syringe with every fiber of his being. only thing is he still has almost no appetite, hopefully that will come back soon, too.
