summer storm

yesterday evening around 6 o’clock, it started to rain.  i mean, really rain.  complete with lightning, thunder, and even golf-ball size hail in some areas (not near us, thankfully)!  i was in the middle of making dinner when the power went out.  hoping it’d come back on soon, we watched the rain and waited for daddy to come home.

it’s raining, it’s pouring…

phil got home safe and sound.  but got soaked running from the driveway to the front door (garage door wouldn’t open with the power out).

“it’s comin’ down like hotcakes out there!”

the sun was setting fast, so i scrambled around lighting candles.

mikey was fascinated.

since my planned dinner of stuffed halibut, corn on the cob, and oven fries was a bust with the power still out, phil suggested we throw something on the grill.  the storm was a short one and it had stopped raining already.

then we proceeded to eat our impromptu dinner of boca burgers, turkey dogs, and corn, picnic-style in our living room.

just as we finished eating, the lights came back on!

but only long enough for me to snap a picture, then they went out again.  it’s kinda hard keeping kids entertained in the dark!  fortunately, some of their toys had lights which we played with by candlelight.  allie was thoroughly delighted watching a lit train go round and round.  kept laughing as it went by!  later, as we got them both ready for bed, mikey discovered the fun of flashing the flashlight on the ceiling.  happily, the electricity came back on again just after both kids were in bed.  this morning, mikey and i prayed and thanked God for the lights in our home.
