birthday rewind
to celebrate his birthday on friday, phil and i were able to go on a date!
phil got the day off and my good friend jammie graciously agreed to watch our two kiddos along with her own two kiddos (all by herself– hats off to the brave woman!) so that phil and i could enjoy some alone time.
phil’s only request for the day was that we go watch a movie in a theater so i looked online to see what was showing. pretty slim pickings for 10:30 am showings. we ended up watching “blades of glory”. not my cup of tea, but it was phil’s pick and i was happy to accompany him. i wouldn’t really recommend it though.
afterward, we headed over to mount fuji restaurant for some sushi and bento box lunches. we especially enjoyed one of the chef’s special rolls called the “treasure island”. good food, good conversation, great time! and we DID manage to talk about other stuff besides just the kids!
it was a beautiful day so we spent a little time walking along the outdoor shops hand-in-hand. we stopped in at a game stop store where phil picked up three xbox games. it always seems to work best when phil picks out his own presents because i never know what he’s looking for. i mean, i know what hobbies and collectibles he likes, but not the specifics.
it was just like one of a hundred (thousand??) other dates we’ve had pre-kids. but this one felt extra-special just because dates are harder to come by these days.
though i did bring the camera in the car, i forgot to take it out with me! so, no pictures from the date day.
but! mikey and allie helped me bake a birthday cake for daddy on monday (phil was on call over the weekend- otherwise we’d have made it earlier) and i managed to get pictures of that. the cake wasn’t anything fancy, but made with our best intentions!
one of my little assistants all ready to help…
after i frosted the cake, my other assistant got to work…
don’t worry, allie got to sample the frosting, too.
then mikey got to work putting the sprinkles on the cake.
he was very careful to not spill the sprinkles and meticulously picked up every single stray ‘funfetti’ from the table and place it on the cake.
such a serious endeavor!
mikey happily named this our ‘color cake’. we surprised daddy with it after naps and after he got home from work.
helping daddy blow out the candles (something tells me phil and i will have help blowing out our candles from here on out…).
three down, one more to go. mikey’s counting down the days til it’s his turn!

so fun michelle! i think the last ‘date’ peter and i went on was for our anniversary 2 years ago. at least that’s the last one i can remember.
