old blog

we made it!

we’re here!  we’re here!  my apologies for dropping out of contact since we left– it’s been CRAZY.  it took a few days after we arrived to get the internet set up and then wouldn’t you know it, our computer crashed the very next day.  so we had to wait til the movers came (last friday) with our other computer to finally get back online again.

thankfully, my brother was here when the computer crashed and took it with him to save the files on it to an external hard drive.  lesson learned the hard way– back up files BEFORE a computer crash.  so hopefully he’ll be able to save all the pictures we had on there from the last year.  pics of allie’s whole first year of life would be lost otherwise!

we’ve taken a ton of pics in the last couple of weeks but it’ll be a little while before i can post them as the cable is buried somewhere in our mountain of boxes and it doesn’t seem to want to be found just yet.

so for now, a quick update– the airplane ride over ended up being pretty rough after the sad goodbyes with lorie and jammie (who dropped us and our stuff off at the airport), a TSA lady giving us a really hard time going through security (grrrrrr), and then allie being beside herself and crying the last 3 hours of the trip from not getting to nap the whole day.  then we got stuck in an hour of traffic on the way to our new place where mikey got car sick, then we got lost trying to find the the address, then we couldn’t find our unit within the complex and wandered around for half on hour on foot and discovered the horrible non-sensical planning of the complex.  two different people who live here tried to help us find our unit and couldn’t figure out where it was.  and by now, both kids are screaming crying from hunger and tiredness.  i was about to burst into tears myself and actually did break down a little when phil called to see how we were doing.  but then my crying only got the kids more scared and upset so i had to suck it up and pretend to be calm and happy for their sake.

thankfully, everything looked and felt better the next morning and we were able to have a normal day resting and exploring the complex.  phil made it safely and joined us on thursday evening.  we spent that weekend buying supplies and a vacuum cleaner and doing a little sightseeing with esther and eugene (who helped us out a TON to get settled in and made the transition so much easier on us).

last week, we drove up four hours to spend a few days with my dad and step-mom.  the drive there and back home was again pretty miserable with mikey getting carsick so we had to keep stopping every hour.  but my dad and mira gave us one of their mini-vans which i was really happy about!  now we’ve got tons of space for the kiddos and all their gear.

we got back in time to meet the moving truck on friday and thankfully, the move went really great and all of our stuff made it relatively intact.  whew.  a really reputable mover is definitely worth it for a long-distance move.

so now, we’re busy trying to unpack and settle in.  though it’s going really slowly now with phil back to work since yesterday.  we’re both bummed phil didn’t get much of a vacation even though he had two weeks off.  but we’re so thankful we’re all here safely, the move is over with, and we’re happy to finally be in our new home.

alrighty, better get going!

wow, back in CA again. yay. too bad about mikey. man, does that mean you flew from MN to CA with 2 kids by yourself? or did i misunderstand what i read (totally possible) TSA people are morons especially with babies, like taking them out of a carseat when they are sleeping. grrrrr. or if you have to be searched further they make them go to a stranger, i think NOT.
at any rate you are safe in CA now.

so glad to hear you made it safe despite the glitches. it still feels like you are in MN and we will see you at moms group. Keep posting, it makes me feel like you are just across the city.

I have been checking for an update– thanks for posting one even though you’re so busy.  Of course… it made me cry.  I know how hard those rough days can be.  Glad you survived.  I must say… reading these comments from your CA friends makes me a little jealous.  I’m glad they enjoy being with you as much as all of us, though.  Miss you.

we are glad to hear you made it in one piece! Maybe not with peace of mind, but in total. Traveling with little ones is no easy task and your’s sounded aweful. I have been EXTREMELY blessed during my travels alone with little ones. I will praise GOD more for these moments after hearing about yours! We are doing well and got all your boxes of clothes. I can’t believe what I have gotten back from you and another friend for baby #4. God is always in the details of life. We love the updates.

Glad to hear you are adjusting well to your new home despite all the hassle in getting there! Hope Mikey gets better with the car travel issues. We’ll have to catch up more after things calm down a bit for me. It’s been quite the 2 weeks in our house…
