la zoo

phil got the day off yesterday and so we went to the la zoo.  i don’t think i’ve ever been there before so it was a pleasant surprise to see how big it was and how many different animals they had there.  mikey was super excited since he loooves going to see the animals.  we actually only got to about one-third of the zoo since we were there just for the afternoon, but we got a good deal on annual passes so we’ll definitely be going back!  if you’re up for a zoo day, definitely let me know cuz we got free passes, too!

we first visited the “children’s zoo” where we could go inside and pet different animals.  this goat let mikey give him a good brush down.

then we headed over to a little stage area just as a show was about to begin.  little did we know that it was an interactive story and audience participation was required!  and guess who was first to raise his hand and get picked to go backstage to be part of the story??  (and if you remember how shy this boy was the first two years of his life, this is a MAJOR shocker, indeed!)

mikey boldly answered into the microphone, “mikey” when the stage guy asked his name.  and then answered, “monkey” when asked what his favorite animal was.

all the little animals, i mean kids, lined up on the stage.  they were reenacting the story, “giraffes can’t dance!”.  uh, do they look like they’re having fun yet?

after mikey was transformed back into a little boy, we got to see this cute little porcupine up close.

it was a beautiful day with comfy 70 degree weather and a gorgeous blue sky with puffy white clouds overhead.  made me thankful for how God makes all things new again, even after the devastating fires that destroyed so many homes and turned the sky an eerie smoky orange for days on end.  the happy blue overhead was definitely a welcome sight!
