birthday bash
we threw a little party for mikey here at the house last saturday. we’re not quite settled in yet and just barely finished moving our stuff out of the old place, but are soooo happy to have a place where we can entertain friends again. so, things at the party were a little ghetto (i felt like i could’ve used another day to get ready!), but hopefully no one minded and had a good time anyway. i know mikey had a blast, which made me happy at the end of the day. thoroughly exhausted, but happy.
it proved to be quite a challenge to take pictures while running around hosting the party, so i only managed to get a few shots here and there. mikey’s still really into ‘curious george’ so we threw a monkey party for him. my friend emily let us borrow her bounce house, so the kids bounced around while we waited for everyone to arrive. we didn’t want to make anyone have to drive a really long distance just to come (heh, except for my family) and ended up inviting just a few of mikey’s friends from church along with my side of the family. after bouncing around and playing inside, we moved out to the backyard for bubbles and painting while phil started grilling for lunch. BIG thanks to phil for getting all the food and then grilling yummy teriyaki chicken, kalbi, and burgers!
the kids seemed to really enjoy painting together:
allie was the only little girl there! all of mikey’s buddies have little brothers. but i don’t think she minded.
after lunch, was pinata time! first, we tried one kid at a time…
then we had everyone pull a string together. allie chose to stay a safe distance away.
then we moved back inside for a build-a-monkey activity:
which quickly changed into the parents stuffing the monkeys while the boys played in the fluff:
and finally came mikey’s favorite part– we all sang “happy birthday” to him!
mmm, chocolate dobash cake from kings hawaiian.
after our friends left, the party still continued as my brother’s family and my dad and mira stayed to hang out and have dinner with us. the boys had a wii tournament.
then phil grilled more meat for us. one of mikey’s gifts happened to be a play grill that looked just like daddy’s and so he was more than happy to take it outside to cook with him.

I agree with mrsstellalee you don’t look pregnant at all! How come I am two months behind you and feel like I am two months bigger? 🙂 ahh… look at those palm trees. Your party looked wonderful and your house very comfy. I love Mikey’s expression while you sang to him–priceless!

What a wonderful party…done in true Tsai style! Build-a-monkey? Only you would think of such a perfect activity to match the party’s theme! I have to agree with the other ladies….are you sure you’re pregnant? You look great!!! Hope you have a wonderful year until your next b-day, Mikey! We love you!

i’ve never seen a “safe” pinata with pulling strings, that is such a better idea then whacking it violently with a stick. what a cool party, build a monkey. moving, being preggers…you are wonder woman.
