Personal Summer Bucket List: [Ghetto] Science Camp September 22, 2014 / Another item on Mikey’s Summer Bucket List? Playdates! Also known as [Ghetto] Science Camp at the Tsais! Day One was all about candy experiments. We started with Pop Rocks/soda balloon inflaters. There’s so much going on in this picture, but I love it anyway. It pretty much sums up how chaotic kids+candy+soda+dog can get. Seven kids and a dog vs. me. I think they won. And it still gives me pause to know that more’n half of ’em are mine. Good gravy. Then we moved on to the next experiment. Soda-Mento Geysers. Of course, they’d already done this before. But were still game to see it again. Turns out a 3-liter bottle of Diet Shasta from the dollar store will not yield the same results as a 2-liter bottle of Diet Pepsi from Ralphs. Live and learn, y’all. (Also, our poor, poor backyard.) The final experiment of the day was making s’mores in solar ovens. These were a success! Photo-bombing little sisters. Gotta love ’em. Day One wrapped up with what they called “The Hammock of Terror”. (Seriously, our backyard…) Day Two (and final) focused on soap experiments. Which, I oddly thought would be the less messy of the two days. I was sadly mistaken about that. Soap bubble snakes. You can never be too old to enjoy bubbles, right? Especially rainbow ones! A random act of bubbling. He was so happy to be able to take part with the big kids this year. And that, my friends, wraps up the educational portion of our summer.
