Staycation, Day 4

Our last full staycation day found us having a spa day for two. Something I never in a million years would have imagined Phil agreeing to much less enjoying. But, we each got a massage on our vacation to Puerto Vallarta a few years back and Phil surprised himself with how much he enjoyed it and said he could see how people could get hooked on them. I took that as a sign that a spa day for two was now totally in the realm of possible for us.

In a word, it was aaaaaaahhhhhhhhh. Best way we could have spent our last full day together. That and one last awesome dinner, of course.

Fried cauliflower dressed w tahini & herbs, labne, pomegranate molasses.
Fried cauliflower dressed w tahini & herbs, labne, pomegranate molasses. This one was good but it came out first and alone. Really felt like it needed to be served alongside another dish because it was strange eating it by itself.

Wild mushrooms, rice porridge, scallions, garlic chips, egg yolk.

Kurobuta pork belly steam bun, guacamole, radish. All day long, baby. This was so good.

Spanish octopus grilled over binchotan, caper, lemon, toasted garlic & its oil, blumenthals, parsley. The octopus was heart-breakingly dry and rubbery. Waaaaaah.

Erik's nightmare (per the menu). Phil's dream burger. He still talks about this one now, a full two months later.

Corn, hatch chiles, goat cheese, crunchy corn. I enjoyed this one. But then again, I am a goat cheese fan. Phil, not so much.

This grape and graham cracker dish was sadly terrible. We would have sent it back if we were the type to send things back. It was just weird. Odd flavors and the texture of the graham was mealy. Strange dish all around. Remind me never to fall for foam on a dish again. Not worth it.

The highlight of the meal came when guess who stopped by our table? And no, it wasn't awkward at all. And I wasn't weird in the slightest. Just ask Phil! Or actually, don't. Haha.

Overall, a wonderful meal with my awesome hubby. One or two bad dishes quickly and easily forgotten in favor of the many good things we’d been able to eat the past few nights. What good times and great memories. So thankful for these God-provided times of refreshing and being together aside from being mommy and daddy for just a few days. Definitely a lovely replenishing time and now recharged to return to our regular programming.

Thanks for reliving all these beautiful food memories with me. Fun’s not over yet though as we had a few more days of vacation ahead of us. Just with the kids this time. đŸ™‚
