I don’t know how this happened and am not entirely convinced of its veracity, but apparently my baby went from this:
A tiny 6 pound 3 ounce, preemie clothes wearing, carseat hating peanut…
to this big boy. Unbelievable.
So~o~o big! Even though he’s kinda too big to play “So Big” anymore. Sniff.
Since this (thank my lucky stars) is not our party year, we celebrated family style with a lunch at Chuck E. Cheese. He can now even say, “Chuck E. Cheese” instead of the former “Chuckchee!” that used to be cheerfully called out every time we drove past. Sniff.
The rest of the afternoon we spent together in the backyard where he did some of his favorite things.
With some of his favorite people.
Monkey in a tree!
Another monkey in a tree!
So while they were busy taming the jungle backyard…
she spent the time lost in a book. Girl after my own heart. (Actually, her older sibs can often be found with their noses in books too, for which I am so thankful.)
But this particular afternoon, this girl was all about DEAR-ing.
They moved on to watering our plants and trees.
And discovered there was a hole in this watering can.
Seriously, when did my baby turn into this full-fledged boy??
The budding apples were thankful for the sunshine and water.
As were the other plants.
She finally tore herself away from her book in order to join the others.
For it was pretend cooking over a campfire time.
Many hands make light work.
Love this girl.
Love this boy.
Love this girl.
Love this boy.
I especially love when he puts big effort into doing the things his big brother does.
And succeeds.
Ahh sisters. Trying to get along while working through a difference of opinion over the pretend soup.
Our little dog. Also part of the family scene.
His thoughts clearly written on his face while waiting for the sisters to finish working through their difference of opinion.
Aaaaand some welcome comic relief.
In case you were wondering what the big daddy was up to. Removing old paint from some old hinges with acetone. Because we couldn’t find replacement hinges to fit our newly painted yet old-school cabinet doors so we (read: he) had to repurpose the old ones. And spray them with bronze paint. And use them to rehang the doors. He’s just cool like that.
Allie pouring in the pretend water. Jonah supplying the pretend fire complete with sound effects.
Kids at play. I love this.
Part two coming up next.
