A Big Day

The long-awaited, much anticipated day for this girl finally came…

Here she is before...
Here she is before…

And before I knew it, she was already in the candy closet!
And before I knew it, she was already in the candy closet!

She made sure she got enough to share with her siblings.

The office staff said she did it right filling it all the way to the top! They were impressed. So was she. And me, too.

Once we got home, there was much cheering and jumping for joy.

Because she told them she was gonna share.
Because she told them she was gonna share.

But not quite yet.
But not quite yet.

So proud of this little girl who turned out to be much tougher and braver about being in braces for a year and a half than any of us thought. She dealt with the discomfort of them, the many canker sores that came, the wires that kept slipping off her too-small teeth, the tightenings, the adjustments, the complicated flossing, the questions from her classmates since she was the first to get them, all of it. Neither Phil or I had braces so we didn’t really know what she was in for or how to prepare her, yet she handled it all like a champ. Even though she was one of their smallest patients. My girl. So impressed with her. She totally deserved her visit to the brace-free zone. I even let them each have FIVE pieces from the candy bag to celebrate. The rest of the bag is still sitting on the kitchen counter, a month later. Largely forgotten by all. Which is fine by me, because no more sitting in the orthodontist’s waiting room certainly doesn’t mean I want to replace it with sitting in dentist’s waiting room while they get cavities filled. :/
