It’s the most wonderful time of the year… according to one Phil Tsai. UCLA football season is upon us, folks. The highs, the lows, the wins, the losses, the season-ending injuries… It’s never a dull run, that’s for sure. Phil announced that we would be tailgating for the season opening game when hopes were high and riding on the shoulders of a freshman quarterback- before all the injuries, before the weakened defensive line, before the rough loss to Stanford. We will cheer for UCLA to the end, but there’s something special and fresh and hopeful about the season opener.
Especially when we pull out a win in the end.

It was a crazy hot afternoon with the temperature entering the triple digit realm. It was sweltering even in the shade. When this happens, everyone retreats to their screens to take their minds off the hot. Hey, it happens sometimes.

Daddy was a trooper and stood in front of a smoking hot fire on a crazy hot day so he could still grill for us. Meat. Yum.

True fans wear their loyalty on their cheeks. Until the heat makes their cheeks sweat which makes the stickers slide down to their chins. Then true fans wear their loyalty on their chins.
Mmm. I could use a repeat of this right about now.
Here’s this boy not caring a whit about the fact that we’ve entered the golden hour with the pretty light that mommy wanted to get a picture of him in.
Because he’d much rather be running and playing with his siblings instead. Okay fine, guess I can’t blame him. Ah but the light!
Fine. I’ll take it. An almost catch.
A total overthrow.
A charge.
A doing what it takes to stop that runner.

At least I’ve got this girl who happily holds still for me. Even with a ketchup spot on her shorts.
