Winter Break Fun (Part 1)

Phil’s mom and brother came to visit us for a few days during winter break while Phil had a few days off from work. A perfect reason to go out and see what we would see.

Actually, Mikey had a field trip that he was supposed to get done for science by the time he returned to school. It specifically said NOT to wait until winter break to do it because they might not have the pins at the ranger station and would take a few weeks to get it mailed to us. He had to take the pin to school to prove he did the assignment. Oops. What can we say, we Tsais tend to live on the wild side… of forgetfulness. Makes life interesting.

So. We drove all the way to Angeles National Forest only to find all the ranger stations closed for the winter. We finally tracked down a fire station and asked one of the guys there, who had no idea what we were talking about. With Phil’s mom and brother in tow. Awesome. We threw up our hands in defeat and decided to try again another day. Because you know, wild side.

And so, in an effort to salvage the day, we ended up in Pasadena. Being that it was a few days before the Rose Parade, we caught sight of them getting the floats ready and found ourselves at a small outdoor fair thing. Hooray for free fun! We even found forest rangers there by their truck and they too had no idea what we were talking about. Hey, so we totally tried twice in one day!

Aw well, at least the kids got to ride in a mini airplane with a real army guy!

Lauren could not be convinced to go for a ride, but Allie was game for it.

Then we made our way into the Kidspace Children's Museum where the kids were wishing they had gloves in order to play with the snow.

Okay, so we might not have successfully completed Mikey’s assignment to visit a State Park (which now we know is NOT the same as a National Forest), but ended up having a nice family outing just the same. Counts as a win in my book.
