maritime museum
this past weekend, we got a chance to visit the maritime museum in san pedro. i had my doubts at first as to whether or not the kids would actually enjoy this outing, but to my pleasant surprise, we all had a good time looking at all the miniature ships and various museum-y things. i also learned a couple new facts about phil– he’s fascinated by ships in bottles, and he used to build model war ships. with the end purpose of burning them in battle. that guy never ceases to amaze (er, surprise?) me. big, strong daddy! who knew there are so many different ways to tie a…

this morning, i brought lauren with me to get the kids from their room. mikey and allie are always super excited to see baby lauren in the morning. seriously, they both jump up and down greeting her, and asking me to lay her down in their beds so they can look at her. i’ve been so thankful for how they’ve both really taken to the baby and not ever had any bouts of jealousy over the attention she requires from me. the only issue we’ve had was when the baby and i first came home from the hospital and mikey spent a couple of weeks extremely attached to me and…

the difference between cats and dogs
we recently got a cell phone with texting for me (phil’s already got one) as a means of staying a little more connected throughout the day. phil’s crazy busy work schedule often doesn’t allow him enough time to call home. the worst is when he’s on call and doesn’t get a chance to check in with me for the entire day. so it’s usually us on a wednesday night saying to each other at bedtime, “k, see you friday!” and since he’s usually on call two to three times a week, it’s easy to start feeling disconnected from each other. so today, we were able to text one another here…
