    baby lauren

my baby is two months old today.  i feel like i just had her yesterday.  what felt like an all-consuming, never-ending phase with my firstborn is now speeding by much too quickly with this one.  i’m a little sad.    i took her in for her well-baby visit and found that she’s eating well (her doctor said i must be feeding her the super-charged, high-octane, premium grade milk ) since she’s now 10.7 lbs (50th percentile) but only 20 1/2 inches tall (3rd percentile).  she’s growing much along the same lines as her big sister did.  no worries since she’ll most likely even out in a few more months.  it’s…

    the monumental first day

after spending very nearly every single waking minute of his four years of life with me, mikey began his first day of preschool yesterday.  i both dreaded and looked forward to the day.  dreaded it because i knew yesterday would be the start of his school career and that each year would see him spending more and more time away from me.  looked forward to it because i knew that he would enjoy this special year, learning and growing so much.  i’ve been feeling a bit spread thin lately dividing my time and attention between now three and not feeling like i’m able to give any one of them my…

    legoland!

phil had last sunday and monday (labor day) off so we decided to make the most of this rare weekend and go on a spur-of-the-moment road trip.  but to where?  we threw around ideas:  las vegas, visit my dad, …?  i suggested going to legoland and staying there overnight, phil liked the idea, and so away we went!  well, first i had to pack everyone up (including phil– the last time he packed for himself was the day we got married and were leaving for our honeymoon!  ever since then the job has fallen to me.  even when he’s leaving by himself for interviews, or jobs, or etc.  but i…

    moments like this

it was just after eleven o’clock.  all was quiet and still, leading me to believe that all members of my household were peacefully slumbering away.  i was winding down myself and decided it was time to give the baby her last feeding before going to bed.  i went to check on the kids in their room first.  i turned on the adjoining bathroom light as i always do in order to peek into their room to make sure all is well in there.  usually i find both soundly asleep, the boy one in the top bunk with covers kicked off, pillow and stuffed animals all askew, and him sleeping sideways at the foot of his…

    home sweet home

i still haven’t worked up the nerve to go out alone with all three yet and therefore am under self-inflicted house arrest.  though my friend emily did manage to get me out of the house last wednesday when we joined them at the library for story time then went to have lunch at a nearby mall while the kids played in the outdoor water spouts.  it was a great afternoon and i’ve decided perhaps i can go out with all three.  but only when there’s another adult with me so we can deal with bathroom trips and nursing situations and children wandering off.  i did manage to remember to put the camera in the car…
