Because she is a planner and because she knew this was our party year, Allie had asked several months in advance for a baking themed party with her friends. Soon after summer vacation started for the kids, Phil had mentioned that he’d be working quite a lot of hours in an upcoming five-day span and suggested that it might be a good time for me and the kids to go visit the grandparents. The long-awaited, much anticipated day for this girl finally came… So proud of this little girl who turned out to be much tougher and braver about being in braces for a year and a half than any of us thought. Growing up, my mom never made a big deal or any deal at all out of our birthdays. She’d always comment that she didn’t understand why the kid had to be celebrated when it was the mom who did all the work to bring that baby into the world. Guess she did have a point there.
