To Stay Awhile
Mikey and Allie took part in a week-long summer science camp. Lauren realized too late that she wanted to take part in it, too. Next year, we told her. Not sure what we’re going to tell Jonah next year when all three go off and leave him behind. He’s not such a big fan of that. Anyhow, the camp was located in the South Coast Botanic Garden. Fast becoming one of my favorite places to be. So when Lauren asked if we could just stay and hang out after we had dropped off the older two, I was happy to say yes. I let them choose where to go and…

Enjoying the Quiet
Jonah and I found ourselves alone at home one leisurely summer afternoon. I forget now where the others had all gone. It’s amazing how quiet the house gets when we go from four kids down to one. And even though I had several other things I was hoping to get done, they all quickly fell by the wayside as soon as Jonah came trotting up to me with his little smile and simple “Mommy, play?” I had to say yes. And I had to grab my camera. Because those two things are pretty much synonymous with me. If I’m gonna be made to play, I’m gonna capture the moment. Because…

Mommy’s Unoffical Mental Summer Bucket List
…the one that existed only in my head? Here was item number one, double starred: Whereas I might* (*absolutely, definitely, most certainly would) have waited muuuuuch later to tackle my least favorite parenting task, this guy and his speech therapy needing self needed to conquer potty training before admittance into the preschool where said speech therapy would occur. Suffice it to say that the summer was a long and pantless one. Moments of despair included for free. Brief, delusional glimpses of the light at the end of the tunnel. Tiny victories quickly followed by soul-crushing defeats. Okay, okay, it wasn’t that bad (it kinda was). But at least it…

Happy Birthday to You and You
After we got back from Arizona, I had exactly one day to prepare for a joint birthday party for Allie and Jonah. Joint birthday party? I think my thinking was along the lines of bandaid removal- rip it off all at once and be done with it. Or something like that. Because March signals the beginning of birthday season in our house. And this is our party year. So two birds, one stone. Happily, at the writing of this post, I am five down, one to go. Unhappily, my shoulders/neck have been hurting since birthday season began. I may need to rethink this every other year party idea. Anywho, here…

Shiny New
Where I been? Here I been! There have been a few changes around here, one of them being my shiny new blog! More on that later though… First, I must introduce you to the shiny new three year old in our house. This guy. He’s three now. This is what he does when someone asks him, “How are you?” Wordlessly, he’s all, “How am I? I’m three, that’s how I am!” Nuff said. He held still for exactly three pictures before he ditched me for bigger and better things. It’s okay though, I’ve got tricks up my sleeve that always eventually bring…
