    To Stay Awhile

Mikey and Allie took part in a week-long summer science camp. Lauren realized too late that she wanted to take part in it, too. Next year, we told her. Not sure what we’re going to tell Jonah next year when all three go off and leave him behind. He’s not such a big fan of that. Anyhow, the camp was located in the South Coast Botanic Garden. Fast becoming one of my favorite places to be. So when Lauren asked if we could just stay and hang out  after we had dropped off the older two, I was happy to say yes. I let them choose where to go and…

    Summer Bucket List: Swimming

Another item we happily checked off Mikey’s summer bucket list – swimming at the pool. Whenever we go, the kids invariably ask if we’re going “for fun” or “for lessons” which I’m assuming are not one and the same in their minds. For how much we’re paying for those swimming lessons though, I think I’d prefer them to find them just as much, if not more, fun. Ah, but such is life. The girl was long overdue to learn how. And happily enough, both items got checked off on Father’s Day.                                                                                        …

    Summer Recital and Street Fair

Mikey and Allie had their piano recital in June the weekend after school let out.           And for whatever reason, they were both more nervous this time around even though it was their third time being in the recital. So they both made some pretty big mistakes while playing. Like the kind where you mess up, lose track of where you are, stop playing while frantically trying to figure out where to start again while listening to the awkward silence of the audience. Ugh, not a good feeling and both kids were pretty disappointed with themselves.                    …
