home sweet home

after a GRRRREAT visit in california, we made it back home yesterday evening.  oh, it was SO wonderful to be back in our own home and throw down our suitcases and just…  be.  phil and i wondered if mikey had forgotten his own house after being in so many different places the last two weeks, but like us, he seemed to know just where he was and his little body seemed to relax just a bit more.  he even remembered his favorite toy in the living room- the wooden coasters!  he went right to them and got right to work pounding them on the coffee table. 

however, we all seem to still be operating on california time.  we put mikey down to bed around 10:30 pm the last two nights and we went to bed at 2:30 am!  yikes!  we’ll have to ease ourselves back to minnesota time.  heh heh.

ok, so our trip was jam-packed and a little stressful at times, but i have to say that this was probably the best trip back we’ve had yet.  i think it’s all cuz of mikey.  all the grandparents and relatives just fell in love with him and all the other usual drama was put on the back burner as they all just wanted to hold him and love on him.  worked out great too as mikey let everyone hold him, as long as he had his bear.  that was the key.

mikey was a trooper in the car, too!  we logged over 1700 miles on our rental car this trip (our record was 2200 miles for one crazy visit) and he’s now become a pro at sleeping anywhere, anytime.  we noticed that today as we ran errands- mikey used to fuss after being in the car too long before and never really fell asleep in the carseat, but now he just falls asleep back there like a ‘normal’ baby.  too bad we jacked him up so much that he had to catch a nap wherever he could…  other things he’s learned on the road- he now loves drinking out of sippy cups (finally!), he’s become a heavier sleeper since we’ve all been in the same room to sleep the whole trip (even through phil’s snoring!) though again, i think this was mostly due to being so jacked up and exhausted- oops!, and he’s taken to eating anything and everything.  he’s definitely done with baby food and eagerly eats whatever we’re eating.  makes feeding him a lot easier now!

so i have a TON of pictures to post.  there are some good ones posted on jenny’s site from when they so kindly let us crash with them.  for the others i think i’ll post them based on the different legs of our trip.  but for now, it’s off to bed for me!
