latest on phil: he took step 2 of the boards yesterday. bah. he came home looking kinda discouraged and said he felt like he didn’t do very well. poor guy, he’s studied for months for this thing. we’ll find out his score in four weeks. eek!
latest on me: my work-from-home job started up a couple weeks ago and boy, it’s taken up pretty much all of my free time (aka mikey’s nap). i’m really glad for the work to get a little extra income, but it’s been hard giving up those lovely afternoon naps.
last tuesday, i went to the moms group at church. it’s been really nice being able to go this year now that mikey enjoys his time in the nursery. the speaker for this week was the mom of one of the moms who also attends the group. she brought in a chest full of vintage aprons passed down to her from her mother, mother-in-law, grandmothers, and great-grandmother! each one had a story that she shared with us. it was so neat to hear how each woman loved the Lord and was so dedicated to loving and serving her family. how this heritage of faith had been passed down from mother to daughter in this family. while i was so encouraged to hear these stories, another part of me felt totally alienated in that i couldn’t relate at all to how it would be to come from a family of strong believers, from women who invested their lives into the next generation that God would be glorified, who cherished their roles as wives and mothers. i was struggling to push those thoughts away, when the speaker closed by saying, “now, i know that some of you here may not have come from Christian homes and may not be able to relate to much of what i’ve said. however, i want to encourage you by saying how much i admire you and your efforts to start a heritage in your own families. anything worthwhile is easier to pass on than it is to start new.” i came away feeling so filled with hope and awe that the Lord would entrust to me the honor and privilege of starting a heritage of faith to pass down to my children and my children’s children.
not that i’m going to take up making and wearing aprons, mind you!
latest on mikey: he LOVES nursery at church now! everytime we go downstairs toward nursery 3, he says ‘ooh!’ and gets all eager to leave me when we check him in. the last couple of times, he quit crying altogether (he used to cry at the initial separation) and doesn’t even look back when we leave!
last night, we picked up a big boy bed for mikey! (another craigslist find!) this boy LOOOOVES cars. any and all cars. so, i had to get this bed for mikey when i saw it- a little blue race car bed!
here he is playing with his cars on his car bed:
he also thinks the front end is a slide!
here he is pretending to sleep on his car bed. (he lays his head down and makes snoring noises like his daddy!)
we’re going to wait another month or two before having him start sleeping in it. for now, he thinks it’s a big giant toy car. and i’ve been trying to figure out how to rearrange his room because soon it’ll be shared with his little sister!
funny how our kids are growing up in this digital age. mikey already knows that he can see pictures/video on the back of our camera, so he always runs over to see even before we take the picture! here’s a video clip of mikey– i was trying to get him to play on it like he did last night to no avail. he was more interested in seeing the camera screen instead!

sounds like you have a lovely mom’s group. i can’t wait to start passing on family traditions and faith in the Lord to my kids.

me, too. i’m in the same boat as far as the first to start passing on a heritage of faith. i’m thankful, too, that God has chosen us to be saved so that we can be able to do that for our families. wow, you’re gonna be a momma to two soon!

i love his car bed!
since a lot of us are in the same boat with having to start our own family traditions/heritage of faith, maybe we can swap ideas….
